SIPCOT is headed by Smt. Yasmin Ahmed, a senior IAS who is also the President, COSIDICI and thus represents the entire State Financial Sector.  

The State of Tamilnadu has made rapid progress in industrialisation making it into a preferred destination for global business majors. One of the driving forces behind such a success is SIPCOT which promotes and develops basic infrastructure for all types of industries. SIPCOT has till date developed 19 industrial complexes/parks/growth centres in all corners of the State and has placed several backward and underdeveloped areas on the industrial map of the country. It is also engaged in the business of developing industry and assisting entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship development programmes for members of the weaker sections of the society are conducted by the Corporation regularly with the objective of creating self-employment. SIPCOT also acts as the nodal agency for the state govt. for sanction and disbursement of incentives viz. subsidy, sales tax deferral and waiver. 

SIPCOT has been able to deploy the abundant natural resources of Tamilnadu successfully. So far 9 industrial complexes, 4 industrial parks and 2 growth centres have already been developed with more to follow. Basic amenities like water and power supply, on site banking and telephone exchange logistics support facilities like truck terminals and a sound infrastructure specially good roads have been provided in addition to good connectivity to airport and railway stations. 

SIPCOT has already sold over 6400 acres and another 9000 acres are ready for allotment. The Corporation now proposes to develop 10,000 acres in different locations viz. Industrial complexes/parks in Hosur, Ranipet, Gummidipoondi, Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Manamadurai, Tuticorin, Nilakkotai, Bargur, Export Promotion Industrial Parks at Gummidipoondi, Industrial Parks at Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur and Cheyyar and Growth Centres at Perundurai and Gangaikondan. Globally renowned companies like Ashok Leyland (Hosur) Hyundai (Irungattukottai) and the float glass manufacturer, Saint Gobain (Sriperumbudur) have set up their units here. The salubrious climate of Hosur 45 km. from Bangalore lured many entrepreneurs to set up their units there. More than 250 units e.g. Titan Industries, Hindustan Lever and India Pistons, Lakshmi Automotive Looms, Bata India Ltd. have been allotted plots here . The second phase of the complex is ideal for general engineering, plastic, electrical and electronic units. 

The industrial complex at Ranipet in Vellore District in a total area of 870 acres houses Thirumalai Chemicals, Ultramarine, Malladi Drugs, Greaves Ltd., SRP Tools, and Murugappa Morganite among others. 

The Gummidipoondi project on nearly 1,200 acres has units of DuPont, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL), Hi Tech Carbon, BPCL, Zenica Bio-Science and Kemin International etc. 

SIPCOT Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP) on 224 acres at Gummidipoondi in Thiruvellore District has been promoted with infrastructure of international standard. It is the place for locating export-oriented units-garments, general and non-polluting units having a minimum 33 percent export obligation. Industrial Park at Irungattukottai in Kancheepuram District is one of the best choices with infrastructure measuring upto international standards for setting up automobile, auto ancillary, electronics, food processing, general engineering and other non-polluting industries. So far, 44 units have been alloted in the park. Hyundai Motors, Matushita Air Conditioning, India have their facilities in the park. Sterlite and Kilburn Chemicals have set up their operations at the 1,100 acres SIPCOT industrial complex in Tuticorin which is situated close to the port. For chemical based industries, the Corporation is developing an industrial complex in Cuddalore, in two phases. Fifty eight industries have taken land of which 39 have commenced production. TANFAC, JK PHARMA, Pentasia, SPIC, Vanavil Dyes, DSQ Bio-Tech are some of the industries situated here. In Pudukottai, SIPCOT has developed an industrial complex on 421 acres, essentially for locating steel casting and industrial gases units. It is also suitable for general engineering, plastics, electrical and electronic units and is only 40 kms away from the Tiruchi airport.  

The Corporation's industrial complex at Nilakkottai in Dindigul is ideal for agro-based industries, food processing, horticulture and floriculture units and light engineering industries. SIPCOT is offering an information technology park in Siruseri, Kancheepuram, exclusively for the IT sector and related industries. The Park is to have facilities measuring upto world standards. Inter-alia, it would have earth stations-- VSNL, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. and STPI are setting up their base in the Park - optic fibre connectivity, intelligent network, and international trunk dial-up. Besides, it is proposed to have an all-in-one commercial complex, convention centre, theme park, 18 hole golf course, luxury hotels, international schools and hi-tech residential houses.  

SIPCOT is also establishing a business-cum-financial centre in Anna Salai (at Saidapet) in Chennai, to accommodate banking and financial institutions like foreign banks and holding companies. On completion, the Centre will also have house information and data processing centres, finance and trade centre and exhibition-cum-convention centres. The centre will have guest-house facilities, business, travel and tourism centres and shopping and business services with excellent communications network of nationwide and worldwide linkage for data transmission.
