INDIAN INSTITUTE
OF TECHNOLOGY, KHARAGPUR
The Institute is conducting an integrated M Tech course in Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering, as well as M.S. and Ph. D in Biotechnology. Excellent laboratory infrastructure in Biotechnology exists in several areas such as Cellular and Molecular Biology, Molecular Virology, Protein Engineering, Plant Tissue Culture, Bioreactor-based Plant Tissue Culture, Fermentation Technology, Animal Cell Culture, Immunology, Food Biotechnology, Drug Chemistry, Genetic Engineering of Crop and Fibre Plants, Microbial Technology, Downstream Processing, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Genetics and Structural Biology. The Bioinformatics Centre established at the Institute has a specific focus on Molecular Biology of Tropical Tasar Silkworm, high frequency mass propagation of plants in bioreactor, cloning of protease inhibitor and polyhedrin virus genes, sequencing of fibroin gene, microbial hydrogen production, molecular modelling of protein/DNA, and Lectin-based affinity matrix development. The centre is providing services for Preliminary investigations : Data retrieval over the Internet, Database integration Target identification : Sequence Analysis, Assay design Target validation : Modelling of pathways, Simulation of Biological processes, Differential gene expression. Screening : Combinatorial Library design, Compound set selection. Rational design : Protein structure computing. The facility is being utilised for a wide variety of applications such as literature survey in biotechnology and molecular biology, medicine, life sciences, agriculture, food biotechnology and biochemical engineering. It has plans to provide facilities for database search of protein and nucleic acid sequences and structures; identification of primers, generation of prediction of proteins, molecular modelling of restriction maps, structure and function proteins etc. CONTACT FOR DETAILS Prof.
