OF MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC PLANTS (CIMAP), LUCKNOW
The Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow, is a premier institution pursuing R&D in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAP), with expertise that matches international standard. The Institute is engaged in major efforts involving Bioprospection of medicinal and aromatic plants; conservation and molecular documentation of genetic diversity in medicinal and aromatic plants; screening of phytochemicals for their biological activity; conservation, genetics, breeding and genetic engineering, characterisation and employment of genetic resources of medicinal and aromatic plants of economic value. The Bioinformatics Centre, established in late 1998, aims to collate information from primary, secondary and tertiary sources of literature including various national and international databanks. It is providing information services related to MAP from acquired and in-house developed databases. The databases searched include AHEAD and STN. Several search requests have been executed. A book entitled “Bioprospection of Medicinal Plants-Volume I,” covering information on 54 medicinal plants, was published. The Bioinformatics Centre is playing a key role in providing necessary scientific, technical and patent related data from on-line, off-line and Internet sources for national and international patents. The Centre is fully geared for providing e-mail, and Internet-based services to CIMAP staff as well as scientists from nearby institutions. CONTACT FOR DETAILS Dr.
